Principal Investigator

Kengo Nozaki, MD, Ph. D.

Kengo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Kengo graduated Tokyo Medical and Dental University (currently Institute of Science Tokyo), Japan, and practiced Gastroenterology as a clinical fellow at Tokyo Medical and Dental University Hospital, while he received Ph. D in medical science at Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 2015. He held a postdoctoral fellowship in the Ed Miao Lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2016-2020, and served as a research associate senior in the Ed Maio Lab at Duke University School of Medicine in 2020-2024. He launched his lab on September 1, 2024.

Postdoctoral Scholar

Maria del Rocio Encarnacion Garcia, MD, Ph. D.

Rocio is a postdoctoral scholar from Mexico who joined the Nozaki lab in January 2025. She completed her PhD in Dr. Porfirio Nava Domínguez’s lab at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV) , Mexico, where she investigated inflammatory regulation of the intestinal epithelium. Welcome, Rocio!
